This week's trivia

It has been an exciting week for me. Not good exciting though. I crash landed in the hospital with a condition that apparently strikes in very young children and is rare in adults. And the complication that I had was even rarer (only one measly page of relevant google results). The good news is that the bad news is over. I am back home recuperating and thinking that it must have been my baby soft skin that mislead the 'condition' into gracing me with it's presence. Ahem. [And Mr. Blog, you can stop that sniggering right this very moment!]

I had planned for a bunch of showcases and a special gallery for the facebook gang this week. Alas, it was not meant to be. Instead, like any self respecting individual with a shiny new camera, I shall shove show pics from my last vacation to you. Oh, and some from my home too.

  As you can see, I have a strong predilection for shiny light thingamajig, commonly referred to as chandeliers

Hmm...who do I love more? Paris or Cats?

Yeh Delhi Hai Mere Yaar...

[Dastkar calendar 2011] 

It's spring in Delhi (almost!). My favorite time of the year in the city. Delhi's calendar is overflowing this month with all sorts of interesting events related to culture, art, music, crafts and food. Mr. Blog insists that I share with you the various craft events I'll be heading to in the coming days (yes, Mr. Blog is considerate like that).  So if you stay in or around Delhi, or are visiting Delhi, make sure you too drop into these fabulous fairs:

Virasat and Dastkar

The Dastkar Basant Bazaar 2011 (spring fair) is at a new location this time, and is also accompanied by the Virasat cultural festival. As always, I will be making more than a couple of trips, not only for the crafts fair, but also for the Dastangoi performances by the über talented veteran and new performers. Jaya Utsav

A festival to celebrate the living traditions of Mahabharata has literary evenings, cultural performances, workshop and sale by master craftsmen, ritual demonstrations and more as it's lineup. Download the program details from here.

Surajkund Fair

The annual fair celebrating Indian crafts and local dance/music is currently on.

When: Feb 1st-15th

And the perennial favorite Delhi Haat, has a 'Handicraft Cluster Creation' fair running till Feb 14th. I am also thinking of checking out the Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair this time [at Greater Noida, from Feb 19th to 22nd].

And for all my readers who aren't anywhere near Delhi, fret not! Mr. Blog, the new camera and I shall bring vignettes from each festival we visit.

No reflection on the rooms that I have for you today

Though they did leave me a little speechless

Indian inspiration done right! From the kantha quilt to the faux camel bone side drawer to the roses to the pillow covers and the headboard...I wouldn't change a thing in this room.

 Just when you ran out of ideas for innovative headboards - how cool is this one? For us folks in India, who can easily find jaali (lattice) work, we could try this with different stones...visualize a dholpur or jaisalmer stone jaali!

I like the play of different materials and textures (metal, ceramic, wood & the green of the cactus) against the mustard wall

This room is overwhelming for me - too much happening visually. But love the independent pieces that have gone in - the tiles, the fabrics, the lamp, the side tables..

I think it's time I re-purposed some of my wardrobe :)

Once bitten, Never shy.

...if bitten by the travel bug that is!

After last week's quick trip, it's only natural that I would long for more travel. Surfing and day dreaming about exotic and not so exotic far away lands, I found these gems on Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the boutique hotel specialists.

And what do I do when I find gems? I share them with you!

What I like about these rooms is that they are not your typical hotel rooms, but have a character of their own. And, with a little ingenuity, I think it is possible to recreate the look in our homes.

Rajasthan beckons again...

The husband and I made a quick trip to Rajasthan last week. As I fumbled with my new camera to capture the magic that is Rajasthan, I wondered why had I taken so long to visit this glorious desert state again.

 Discovered two new lovely places to stay: Badnor House and Royal Heritage Haveli

 I promised myself and all the sundry camels I saw (and named) on the road, that I'll be back soon.
